In 1952 I bought my first Rough Collie and this has been
my favourite breed ever since, enjoying training and competing their
working ability, as well as showing and breeding. I was lucky to make up a
champion in my very first litter, born 1955.

Perhaps just beginners luck !
However in 1968 I decided to buy my first Sheltie, Lönnkullas Ruby
going back to the Helendale stock. She was of Pom type with perfect
pricked ears.
During this period I met Lena Hedfors, Backängen kennel, a very
successful breeder in the 1970´s.
She certainly was my mentor and I had Backängens Erika and Backängens
Jalika, both later made up champions.

In 1955 I applied for a kennel name, in those days an
easy procedure at the charge of Sw. Crowns 100:- plus having show
qualified your dogs with a first class grading.
I always fancied classical music and we had a 19th century Swedish
composer named Franz Berwald, whose music I particularly liked.
Unfortunately not allowed to use his name I had to reconstruct the
spelling into Bermark.

Ch Sereena of Tegwel (Ch.Lythwood Skymaster-Allanvail Gold Pearl of Tegwel) and she will always stand as my ideal. This bitch possessed that extra charisma so rarely seen. A very extrovert lady with a constantly wagging tail which often
